Training Spots for Levels 20 to 30, Ranked by EXP per HP

Rank Classic World monsters for levels 20 to 30 by EXP per HP, with map spawn counts, weaknesses and class notes from the wiki data.

Teddy Vance

After reading this you will be able to pick a map for levels 20 to 30 in MapleStory Classic World, see which monsters pay the most EXP for the HP you have to chew through, and check how many of each the wiki lists on a map. Classic World runs inside the Global MapleStory (GMS) client. Founder's Access opens October 6, 2026, Grand Launch is October 21, 2026, and Nexon's FAQ says progress carries over with no wipe, so a spot you learn now stays useful.

Assumptions. Level 20 to 30, solo, any of the four branches (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief). Our data holds no class damage figures, no potion prices and no respawn timers, so the ranking is class-neutral and makes no claim about kills per hour for your build. Monster figures come from mapleclassic.wiki. Figures marked NiaMeowDB come from that fan site, which this site treats as a truth source alongside the wiki.

How the ranking works

We ranked the monsters in this band by EXP per HP point: the EXP one kill pays, divided by the monster's HP. A higher number means each point of HP you chew through returns more EXP. There are 16 monsters in the 20 to 30 range, and the table below lists the top ten.

Read the table in two layers. The EXP/HP column says how efficient each kill is; the EXP column says what each kill is worth in absolute terms. Jr. Necki at level 21 pays 39 EXP per kill for 272 HP, the strongest ratio on the list. The three Fairy variants pay 54 EXP per kill, the highest single payout in the table, but at 593 HP each they land mid-pack on efficiency. Zombie Mushroom pays 45 EXP per kill for 436 HP, which puts it third. The EXP/HP values for Blue Mushroom and Horny Mushroom are both 0.102 as listed, so the table does not separate them on this measure. Their HP and EXP differ, so the rounding hides the tie-break.

Blue Mushroom sits at level 19, one level under the band. It ranks fourth because it is efficient, but once you are in the band it is a stepping stone rather than a destination.

Why efficiency alone is not enough

A ratio ignores how many monsters stand in front of you. The Fairy monsters show the problem. Fairy 4 has 3 spawns on Lingering Regret, 3 on The Entrance of Golem's Temple and 2 on The Breathing Rock. Fairy 2 has 3 on Dilapidated Tomb and 2 on Someone Else's House. Fairy 3 has 2 each on Tree Dungeon, Forest Up North VI and Tree Dungeon, Forest Up North VII. Those counts are tiny, so treat the Fairies as a bonus kill on your way through, not a grinding target.

For the maps that matter, the next table lists the spawn count of each ranked monster as the wiki records it, and puts NiaMeowDB's max EXP per hour beside it where that site lists the map. We deliberately do not multiply counts by EXP and add them into a map total: the wiki data we hold records no respawn times, so a total would look like an hourly figure without being one. Read the counts as density, and the per-hour column as a second opinion.

The point of this table: Ant Tunnel III holds 61 Zombie Mushrooms and 38 Horny Mushrooms in one map, the densest pairing of ranked monsters we have, and NiaMeowDB's per-hour figure for it is the highest in the table. Ant Tunnel IV leans the other way, with 41 Horny Mushrooms against 23 Zombie Mushrooms. Ant Tunnel II sits in between on count. The per-hour column comes with a warning from NiaMeowDB itself: its max EXP per hour is the most a map could spawn in an hour for one solo player if every monster died the moment it appeared, so nobody reaches it and it is only useful for comparing maps. Where the NiaMeowDB figure and our counts point the same way, as they do for Ant Tunnel III, we trust the pick more.

Map by map notes

The Ant Tunnel cluster, from level 22 as a first pick

Once you can handle level 22 Horny Mushrooms and level 24 Zombie Mushrooms solo, the Ant Tunnel maps are where the numbers point. Ant Tunnel III has the highest density in our data. Ant Tunnel IV skews toward Horny Mushroom (403 HP), the lighter of the two mushrooms to chew through, while Zombie Mushroom costs 436 HP per kill for 45 EXP. Ant Tunnel I also holds 11 Zombie Mushrooms and 15 Horny Mushrooms, and Ant Tunnel Park holds 23 Zombie Mushrooms and 4 Horny Mushrooms.

Per NiaMeowDB, the Ant Tunnel family carries the second half of this band: Ant Tunnel III at 1,536,786 max EXP per hour, Deep Ant Tunnel I at 1,078,060 and Ant Tunnel Park at 981,785. NiaMeowDB names a different dominant monster for Ant Tunnel Park than our ranked table does, because its pick comes from a monster we do not rank in the top ten. That is a difference in scope, not a conflict in the numbers. Per NiaMeowDB, Deep Ant Tunnel I has the broadest spread of monsters in the cluster, which makes it the one to stay on if you want a single map through level 30.

Stirge maps as you enter the band

Stirge is level 20 with 296 HP, the natural first target when you arrive. Dangerous Steam and Transfer Area each hold 38 of them, Dark Cave holds 35, Line 1 (Area 2) holds 21 and Line 1 (Area 3) holds 18. Transfer Area has no other ranked monster, so it is the pick if you want a single target type. Dangerous Steam and Dark Cave add a few Zombie Mushrooms and Horny Mushrooms. Per NiaMeowDB, Dangerous Steam reaches 671,786 max EXP per hour and Transfer Area 502,143, which agrees with our reading that Dangerous Steam is the richer of the two. NiaMeowDB lists both under the level 16 to 20 bracket, so treat them as a way in rather than a place to stay.

Jr. Necki swamps

Jr. Necki has the best ratio and spreads across many maps: Dangerous Croko I (27), Dangerous Croko II (21), The Swamp of Despair III (19), Line 2 (Area 2) (18), The Swamp of Despair II (17), Monkey Swamp III (14) and Line 2 (Area 1) (14). The highest single count is 27 on Dangerous Croko I, at 39 EXP per kill. The data does not tell us how fast those 27 return, and NiaMeowDB lists none of these swamps for this band, so we cannot call them better or worse than the tunnels per hour. They suit you when the tunnels are crowded, or when you want a single-monster map and a low-HP target at 272 HP per kill.

Blue Mushroom, for the early part of the band

Blue Mushroom (level 19, 342 HP, 35 EXP per kill) is densest on The Blue Mushroom Forest (16), with 12 each on The Breathing Rock and The Entrance of Golem's Temple and 11 on The Road to the Dungeon. It pays the least per kill of the ranked monsters, so use it only if you are just below the band and want a Henesys-side route.

Iron Hog and Wild Boar, the Perion and Henesys side

Near Perion, The Land of Wild Boar II holds 23 Wild Boars, Land of Wild Boar holds 22 and West Rocky Mountain IV holds 15. Wild Boar is level 25 with 510 HP and pays 46 EXP per kill. Iron Hog is level 28 with 572 HP and pays 52 EXP per kill, with 22 on Pig Park II, 20 on Pig Park and 13 on Someone Else's House. Their ratios are the lowest in the table, but they give you a change of scenery away from the tunnels.

Class notes: what the weakness column means

  • Zombie Mushroom is weak to Holy. A Magician with a Holy-element attack has a clear reason to take the Ant Tunnel maps. Our guide on undead monsters covers the Cleric heal link.
  • The three Fairy variants are weak to Poison. They are too sparse to build a route around, but a Poison attack speeds up the few you meet on a map.
  • Iron Hog is weak to Lightning. At level 28 with 572 HP, it is the one monster here where an element choice clearly matters, on Pig Park and Pig Park II.
  • Jr. Necki, Stirge, Blue Mushroom, Horny Mushroom and Wild Boar have no weakness listed. That means the wiki data we hold does not record one, not that none exists.

We have no per-class damage figures for these monsters, so we do not claim that a Warrior, Bowman or Thief should prefer any one map. Our class guides cover those paths. The Kerning City Party Quest opens at level 21 per Nexon's release notes, if you would rather party than solo.

How to pick your spot

  1. Note your level. At the bottom of the band, start with a Stirge map such as Transfer Area (single target) or Dangerous Steam (richer per hour, per NiaMeowDB).
  2. When level 22 Horny Mushrooms and level 24 Zombie Mushrooms stop being a risk to your potion budget, move to the Ant Tunnel maps. Take Ant Tunnel III if it is open, then Ant Tunnel IV or Ant Tunnel II.
  3. If your build has Holy, Poison or Lightning, check the weakness column and favor the matching monster.
  4. If a tunnel is crowded, switch to Dark Cave, Deep Ant Tunnel I or a Jr. Necki swamp rather than waiting.
  5. Near the top of the band, the Perion side offers Wild Boar and Iron Hog, but their ratios are the lowest in the table, so you give up efficiency for the change.
  6. Check your pot supply before a long session. Per NiaMeowDB, Ant Tunnel Park has 0 portals to the nearest potion shop while Ant Tunnel III has 6, so a map with a high rate can still cost you in walking.

Party bonus

Per NiaMeowDB, the COT2 ruleset gives 10% more EXP at two party members, 20% at three and 30% from four onward. Everything in this guide assumes solo play. In a party the rewards rise, but we have no data suggesting the order of maps changes.

What the data does not tell us

  • Respawn time. Without it we cannot turn spawn counts into EXP per hour. NiaMeowDB's per-hour figures use a method we cannot verify from our own data.
  • Drop rates. None are recorded yet, so this guide ranks EXP only, not mesos or items.
  • Monsters outside the top ten. The table lists ten of the 16 monsters in range, and the rest may share maps with the ones above.
  • Damage per class. We cannot say how many hits any class needs to kill any monster here.
  • Launch changes. Numbers come from mapleclassic.wiki ahead of Grand Launch on October 21, 2026, and can move.
