This guide takes a Bowman from the level 10 first job advancement in Henesys to the level 30 choice between Hunter and Crossbowman in MapleStory Classic World (Classic World from here on). After reading it you can order your SP (skill points), pick a training map for each level band, and choose a bow or a crossbow with a stated reason. Classic World runs inside the existing Global MapleStory (GMS) client. Nexon's FAQ states that Founder's Access starts October 6, 2026, that Grand Launch is October 21, 2026, and that progress made during Founder's Access carries into Grand Launch with no wipe.
What the Bowman is at launch
Per mapleclassic.wiki, the Bowman is one of four job branches (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief) plus Beginner, and the launch game has first and second job advancement only. These facts shape every choice below:
- Primary stat: DEX (dexterity). It is the stat the wiki lists for the Bowman, Hunter and Crossbowman.
- Weapons: Bow and Crossbow.
- First job: you advance to Bowman at level 10 in Henesys.
- Second jobs: at level 30 you choose Hunter (bow) or Crossbowman (crossbow), both in Henesys.
- Third job: not available at launch. Level 30 is the end of the advancement path, so plan a finished build.
Victoria Island opens at level 10, so the monsters in the training table below become your targets the moment you advance. If you still need to reach level 10, the Maple Island guide covers levels 1 to 10.
Bowman skills and what each one does
The table is the skill list from mapleclassic.wiki. Blank wiki cells read "Not listed" because we will not guess a number that is not in the data.
| Skill | Max level | MP cost | Damage % | Targets | Requires |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Arrow Blow | 20 | 6 to 14 | 240 | 1 | None |
| Double Shot | 20 | 8 to 16 | 120 | 2 | Arrow Blow Lv 1 |
| Critical Shot | 15 | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | None |
| The Eye of Amazon | 15 | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | None |
| Focus | 20 | 8 to 16 | Not listed | Not listed | The Eye of Amazon Lv 3 |
| Power Knockback | 15 | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | None |
Read the table as a build map. Arrow Blow is your main attack: one target, 240 percent damage, and an MP cost that climbs from 6 to 14 as you raise it. Double Shot is listed at 120 percent on 2 targets, and its MP cost tops out at 16, which is 2 more than Arrow Blow's 14. NiaMeowDB words Double Shot as two 120 percent arrows, so the sources describe the hit count differently; the wiki wins where they disagree.
The one dependency to remember is on the Focus row: Focus needs The Eye of Amazon at level 3. The wiki gives no effect numbers for Critical Shot, The Eye of Amazon or Focus, so these come from NiaMeowDB: Critical Shot at level 15 gives 20% critical rate and 15% critical damage, The Eye of Amazon at level 15 adds 120 px of bow and crossbow range, and Focus at level 10 gives +10 Accuracy and +14 Evasion for 170 seconds. No Bowman skill in the wiki table has an element listed.
SP order from level 10 to 30
This order follows NiaMeowDB's allocation. The logic: raise Arrow Blow first because you cast it most, take early Eye points to unlock Focus, and spend every first-job point before level 30. Per NiaMeowDB, second-job SP cannot be spent on first-job skills, so a point you skip is stranded.
- At level 10, advance in Henesys and put your first SP into Arrow Blow. You should now see Bowman as your job and Arrow Blow at level 1 in the skill window. If the window is empty, the advancement did not finish; talk to the instructor again.
- From level 11, keep adding to Arrow Blow. More levels mean more damage while you meet your first Victoria Island monsters.
- At level 12, put one point into The Eye of Amazon. Per NiaMeowDB, this adds range without stalling Arrow Blow. You should now see The Eye of Amazon at level 1.
- At level 15, raise The Eye of Amazon to level 3. This meets the wiki requirement for Focus. You should now see Focus available. If it stays grey, check that Eye shows level 3.
- At level 18, finish Arrow Blow at level 20 and start Critical Shot. Per NiaMeowDB, Critical Shot gets 2 points here.
- From level 19 to level 23, finish Critical Shot at level 15. It is a damage skill, so it comes before more range.
- From level 23 to level 27, raise The Eye of Amazon to its maximum of 15. You should now have the full 120 px of extra range, per NiaMeowDB.
- From level 27 to level 30, raise Focus to level 10 and put one point into Power Knockback. This is NiaMeowDB's default end state, with Double Shot left empty.
Why leave Double Shot empty? Its wiki MP cost reaches 16 against 14 for Arrow Blow, and per NiaMeowDB it also uses 2 arrows per cast against 1. If monsters reach you and interrupt your shooting, NiaMeowDB suggests a variant: keep Arrow Blow, Critical Shot and The Eye of Amazon maxed, then split the remainder as 8 points in Power Knockback and 3 in Focus. Take it only if being hit is your actual problem; otherwise the Accuracy from Focus is the safer default for a solo player.
Early Eye costs a little damage. NiaMeowDB's comparison shows a damage-first order ahead by 5.7% expected damage at level 15, and the two orders match from level 23. That is the price of reaching Focus sooner.
AP and accuracy: why DEX comes first
AP (ability points) are the stat points you assign at each level up. Because DEX is the primary stat per the wiki, NiaMeowDB's sample route puts every AP from levels 2 to 10 into DEX, ending level 10 at 5 base STR and 57 base DEX. After the advancement, its bow route ends level 30 at 30 STR and 132 DEX, and its crossbow route at 20 STR and 142 DEX. The wiki data here lists no weapon stat requirements, so read the requirement on any bow or crossbow before you spend STR on it.
DEX matters because of Accuracy. Per NiaMeowDB, base Accuracy is floor((1.2 x DEX + 2 x level + 0.6 x LUK) / 4.8 + 20), and each point of DEX adds 0.25 ACC. Its targets for a 100% hit rate:
- Bubbling (level 15): 31 ACC.
- Stirge (level 20): 44 ACC.
- Zombie Mushroom (level 24) at character level 20: 54 ACC. A build with 53 ACC hits 97.2% of the time.
- Zombie Mushroom at character level 25: 47 ACC.
The point: Zombie Mushroom is where misses start to show if you arrive under-levelled. The wiki does not list monster Avoid, so these figures are NiaMeowDB's alone. Treat them as a check, not a promise.
Arrows and mesos
Your attacks use arrows. Per NiaMeowDB, Arrow Blow uses 1 arrow per cast and Double Shot uses 2. What the data does not tell us: the wiki facts here list no arrow prices, no stack sizes, no meso drop amounts and no drop rates. We will not fill that gap from memory, so check shop prices in Henesys yourself before you stock up.
NiaMeowDB does record a citizenship route, and the wiki confirms Classic World has a Citizenship system. Use it in this order:
- At level 12, choose Henesys citizenship. Per NiaMeowDB, you sign at the Henesys Town Hall. You should now see Henesys as your citizenship.
- Raise your citizenship grade as you play. Per NiaMeowDB, Bronze Arrows at 2 mesos each unlock at grade 3, which needs level 22 and 2,000 citizenship contribution.
- Buy shop gear and stop there. NiaMeowDB advises that shop bows, crossbows and armor are enough for these levels, so do not spend mesos chasing small early upgrades.
- Optional: per NiaMeowDB, a Supreme Sniper Potion sold in Henesys gives +7 Accuracy.
Arrows and MP are linked costs. Arrow Blow is the cheaper attack per cast on both, which is another reason to keep it as your main skill. How many arrows a monster takes depends on your damage per hit, and that figure is not in the fact sheet.
Where to train at levels 10 to 30
The wiki records 33 monsters in the 10 to 30 band. Our derived ranking sorts them by EXP per HP point, so a higher number means more EXP for each point of HP you remove. The table shows the top ten with one sample map each and the monster count on that map. A count is not a respawn rate; the data has no spawn timer and no drop rate, so a crowded map does not prove fast EXP.
| Rank | Monster | Level | HP | EXP | EXP/HP | Weak to | Sample map (count) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Jr. Necki | 21 | 272 | 39 | 0.143 | Not listed | Dangerous Croko I (27) |
| 2 | Stirge | 20 | 296 | 37 | 0.125 | Not listed | Dark Cave (35) |
| 3 | Octopus | 12 | 191 | 23 | 0.12 | Lightning | Kerning City Construction Site (10) |
| 4 | Green Mushroom | 14 | 233 | 26 | 0.112 | None | Henesys Hunting Ground III (13) |
| 5 | Ribbon Pig | 10 | 172 | 19 | 0.11 | Not listed | L Forest I (21) |
| 6 | Bubbling | 15 | 259 | 28 | 0.108 | Lightning | Line 1 (Area 1) (64) |
| 7 | Orange Mushroom | 8 | 142 | 15 | 0.106 | Not listed | Henesys Hunting Ground III (11) |
| 8 | Zombie Mushroom | 24 | 436 | 45 | 0.103 | Holy | Ant Tunnel III (61) |
| 9 | Blue Mushroom | 19 | 342 | 35 | 0.102 | Not listed | The Blue Mushroom Forest (16) |
| 10 | Horny Mushroom | 22 | 403 | 41 | 0.102 | Not listed | Ant Tunnel IV (41) |
Use the EXP/HP column for efficiency and the level column for safety. Jr. Necki gives 39 EXP for 272 HP, while Zombie Mushroom gives 45 EXP for 436 HP. Zombie Mushroom pays more per kill but takes more arrows and MP to remove. The weakness column does not help a first-job Bowman, since no Bowman skill in the wiki table has an element. Green Mushroom is the only monster here recorded as weak to none.
A solo plan by level band, using the table:
- Levels 10 to 14: hunt Ribbon Pig (level 10), Octopus (level 12) and Green Mushroom (level 14), with HP of 172, 191 and 233. These are low enough for early Arrow Blow levels. Orange Mushroom is level 8, below the band, but shares the Henesys Hunting Ground maps.
- Levels 15 to 20: move to Bubbling (level 15), Blue Mushroom (level 19) and Stirge (level 20). The Blue Mushroom Forest and The Breathing Rock list Blue Mushroom; Dark Cave and Dangerous Steam list Stirge.
- Levels 21 to 30: use Jr. Necki (level 21), Horny Mushroom (level 22) and, once your Accuracy is ready, Zombie Mushroom (level 24). The top ten stops at level 24; the other monsters in the band are in the wiki data but not shown here.
The fact sheet records map names, not routes. Open the in-game world map and find each map before you set out; if it is not reachable from where you stand, return to a town and approach from there.
Hunter or Crossbowman at level 30
At level 30 you choose in Henesys. Both use DEX as the primary stat, so your AP plan does not change; the weapon and the attack skill do.
| Item | Hunter | Crossbowman |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon | Bow | Crossbow |
| Main attack skill | Arrow Bomb: Bow | Iron Arrow: Crossbow |
| Attack skill max level | 30 | 30 |
| Attack skill MP cost | 14 to 28 | 14 to 28 |
| Damage and targets | Not listed | 190% on 4 targets, 1 hit |
| Booster MP cost | 30 to 10 | 30 to 10 |
| Soul Arrow MP cost | 25 to 5 | 25 to 5 |
The two lists mirror each other. In both, Final Attack needs Mastery at level 3, the Booster needs Mastery at level 5, and Soul Arrow needs the Booster at level 5. The visible difference is the attack skill: Iron Arrow is listed at 190 percent on up to 4 targets, while Arrow Bomb: Bow has no damage or target data, so the wiki cannot tell us how the Hunter's attack compares.
Per NiaMeowDB, in an Arrow Blow comparison with clean level 30 gear, the bow deals about 3.5% more DPS, while the crossbow deals about 5.2% more damage per cast and per MP. Treat that as a tendency, since it depends on the exact weapons tested.
Choose with a condition:
- Pick Hunter if you train alone on spread-out maps and want the bow's higher DPS in NiaMeowDB's comparison.
- Pick Crossbowman if you train on crowded maps and want Iron Arrow's 4 targets, or if damage per MP matters more than speed.
- Before you commit, read both skill descriptions in game for the numbers the wiki leaves blank. You should now see damage values for both attacks.
No third job is available at launch, so this is the last class decision in the launch game.
