Forgotten Hollow Guide: Status, Quests, Monsters, Boss

Forgotten Hollow is closed in Classic World for now. Here is what Nexon says, plus the quests, monsters and Rotten Mushmom data waiting behind it.

After reading this you will know whether you can enter Forgotten Hollow in MapleStory Classic World (you cannot), what Nexon has said about timing, and what the available data says is waiting there: the quest chains, the monster line-up, the maps and the Rotten Mushmom boss. You will also see which numbers are confirmed and which are still blank, so you can plan without guessing.

Is Forgotten Hollow open right now?

No. Nexon's Founder's Access release notes list the bosses you can challenge today: Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog, plus King Slime inside the Kerning City Party Quest. Rotten Mushmom is not on that list. The same notes say she lives in Forgotten Hollow, which is closed for now.

Per NiaMeowDB, which draws on the October 6 release notes, the reason is that nobody has located the route down into the area, and the developers intend to open it in a later update. That is the full extent of what we have on timing. We have no calendar date, no patch number and no confirmation that it will arrive by Grand Launch on October 21, 2026. Nexon is the authority on dates and launch scope, and it has not committed to one for this area. If you see a date quoted elsewhere, treat it as unconfirmed until Nexon posts it.

Founder's Access began on October 6, 2026 for Orange Mushroom and Zakum package holders. Nexon's FAQ says progress carries directly into Grand Launch with no wipe. So nothing you earn now is lost when the Hollow opens; the area just is not part of the build you can reach today.

Why a closed area still deserves a guide

Classic World recreates pre-Big Bang MapleStory inside the Global MapleStory (GMS) client, and Forgotten Hollow is the odd one out. Per NiaMeowDB it is a cave area that exists nowhere else in MapleStory, with its own fairy town. The design intent reads as new content for players who have outgrown the early Victoria Island fields, sitting in a level band the existing maps do not cover.

One memory, and then back to the facts. In the 2007-era client I once spent a weekend chasing a rumored hidden portal that turned out not to exist. I cannot place Forgotten Hollow in that client at all, which fits NiaMeowDB's claim that it is original to Classic World, so my memory is no guide here. What is true in Classic World today: there is no secret entrance to find, because Nexon says the path has not been located. Time spent searching is time not spent on EXP.

The wiki's coverage is thin. mapleclassic.wiki lists Forgotten Hollow only as a town in Victoria Island, and its dedicated page could not be read when we checked. Much of what follows therefore leans on NiaMeowDB, which this site treats as a truth source alongside the wiki. I attribute those figures as I go.

What the wiki data already holds

Per mapleclassic.wiki, the monster table holds 66 monsters at launch across Victoria Island and Maple Island, and it already includes Forgotten Hollow's entries even though they are unreachable for now. The wiki also counts 221 quests at launch. The data was entered ahead of access, which is why we can describe the boss and some quests at all.

The wiki's Victoria Island map table, by contrast, shows no Hollow maps. The highest level minimum in it is 11, shared by East Rocky Mountain III and Tree Dungeon, Forest Up North II. The highest level maximum is 31, on The Swamp of Despair II, followed by The Pig Beach at 28 and Over the Wall at 23. Nothing reachable is aimed at the 39-and-up band the Hollow targets, which suggests the area fills a real gap in the level curve rather than sitting beside existing content.

Rotten Mushmom: the boss behind the door

Rotten Mushmom is an undead boss. The table sets the wiki's numbers beside NiaMeowDB's, because they agree on most fields and differ on one.

Statmapleclassic.wikiPer NiaMeowDB

MP200not given
EXP844844
WeaknessFire, HolyHoly, Fire
ResistsPoisonPoison
Respawn60 minutes1 to 1.5 hours
LocationSomeone Else's GraveSomeone Else's Grave, off Decayed Tunnel I

The respawn is where the sources differ: the wiki lists 60 minutes, while NiaMeowDB gives a range of 1 to 1.5 hours. Until someone times it in game, treat 60 minutes as the shortest wait and expect it could run longer. NiaMeowDB also reports that she regenerates 864 HP per tick. The wiki data we have lists no tick length, so we cannot turn that into HP per second.

The design reading is that she is an undead twist on the Mushmom you may already have fought. NiaMeowDB puts the original at level 40 against her level 60. Her Fire and Holy weaknesses mean those elements are what to plan around, and Poison is a poor choice. Her 844 EXP is modest next to her 86,400 HP, so this looks like a fight for drops and progression more than a quick EXP spike.

The wiki's drop list names six items: Rotten Mushmom Cap, a scroll entry listed only as Intermediate, Equipment Crafting Stimulator, Scroll Crafting Stimulator, White Potion and Blue Potion. The minimum, maximum and rate columns are all empty, so we have no drop rates and will not invent any. No spawn maps are recorded for her on the wiki either.

For bosses you can fight now, see our Mushmom Boss Guide and Zombie Mushmom Boss Guide.

The quests that start in the Hollow

The wiki currently attributes two quests to Forgotten Hollow, both given by Nyroth.

QuestLevelGiverEXPMesosRepeatable
Nyroth's Fragile Hope45Nyroth5,2551,300No
Matters of the Heart45Nyroth5,2551,300No

Both are level 45, pay the same 5,255 EXP and 1,300 mesos each, and neither repeats. Per NiaMeowDB, Nyroth's Fragile Hope asks for 20 Rafflesia Petals and rewards 25 Blue Potions. Matters of the Heart sends you on to Jaime the Wandering Explorer in Decayed Tunnel III to deliver the Scorched Arcon Scroll, and rewards a Cape Accuracy Scroll: Intermediate or Greater, at 50% each.

NiaMeowDB describes a much larger picture: 15 quests in four chains, worth 84,249 EXP and 19,573 mesos in total. The chains are:

  • The Ellinia chain: five quests, all at level 39, opened by Grendel the Really Old. Finishing Welcome to the Hollow unlocks the other three chains.
  • Zelya's chain: two quests at level 39, then The Road Back Home at level 43.
  • Nyroth's chain: the two quests above plus A Memory of Iron at 45, then A Heart of Stillness and Wood and The Sage's Burden at 50.
  • Myra's chain: Old Friends and Myra's Old Friend, both at level 49.

The wiki table lists only Nyroth's two, while NiaMeowDB shows givers such as Zelya, Myra and Daniel the Scholar too. We do not know why the wiki list is shorter, so assume it is incomplete rather than that the other quests are absent. We also have no confirmation that any Ellinia-side quest can be accepted today. Do not plan a level 39 route around it.

The monsters and maps, per NiaMeowDB

NiaMeowDB lists ten new monsters, running from level 39 up to 59. The wiki's monster table includes the area's entries, but our data pull does not show their individual stats, so the figures below come from the reference alone.

MonsterLevelHPEXPWeakness
Glowshroom391,37782None
Raffle401,72285Fire
Golden Stirge421,27893None
Aqumander432,06998Lightning

Rafflesia472,285117Fire
Duskmander502,682133Ice
Myewood543,924160Fire
Rotten Mushroom563,520183Holy
Sporewood594,834201Holy, Fire

Read the table as a ladder. Each step up in level generally brings more HP and more EXP (Golden Stirge is the one exception on HP), and the top two entries, Rotten Mushroom and Sporewood, are undead. That matches Rotten Mushmom's undead typing and her Holy weakness, so a Holy-capable party member would suit the upper maps and the boss alike. Per NiaMeowDB, Sporewood is the strongest regular monster in the area and regenerates HP, and both Myewood and Sporewood use a ranged attack.

On maps, NiaMeowDB describes a cave with many hunting maps, from Primeval Forest I at the entry end to Another Sanctuary, a dead end. Three matter most for the boss and the upper levels:

  • Someone Else's Grave: a hidden map off Decayed Tunnel I, holding Rotten Mushroom 4, Zombie Mushroom 2 and Fairy 1, plus the boss.
  • Dilapidated Tomb: Rotten Mushroom 14, Fairy 3 and Sporewood 3.
  • Another Sanctuary: Rotten Mushroom 10, Sporewood 7 and Golden Stirge 3.

Those counts are NiaMeowDB's. The wiki records no spawn counts for the boss, and none of these maps carries a level band in our data, so the only band we can give is the monsters' own span of 39 to 59.

What the data does not tell us

  • No release date or patch for the path into the area.
  • No wiki drop rates, minimums or maximums for Rotten Mushmom.
  • No confirmed respawn: 60 minutes on the wiki, 1 to 1.5 hours per NiaMeowDB.
  • No wiki level bands for the Hollow maps.
  • No explanation for why the wiki lists two Hollow quests while NiaMeowDB lists 15.

What to do while it is closed

  1. Level through the maps you can reach. Per the wiki's table, East Rocky Mountain III and Tree Dungeon, Forest Up North II have the highest level minimum, at 11.
  2. Fight the bosses that are open: Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog, plus King Slime in the Kerning City Party Quest.
  3. Keep a Fire or Holy option in mind for later, since those are the boss's listed weaknesses.
  4. Check Nexon's release notes after each maintenance, because that is where an opening would be announced.

When the area does open, expect it to draw players from level 39 up. Second job is the furthest advancement at launch, and the Hollow does not change that.
