By the end of this checklist you will know what to install before October 21, 2026, which account facts to check, how to choose a branch, how to spend your first session, and which content is not in the game. Every date and number below comes from Nexon's Founder's Access release notes, Nexon's Classic World FAQ or mapleclassic.wiki, and each section says which one.
MapleStory Classic World is Nexon's recreation of pre-Big Bang MapleStory. It runs inside the existing Global MapleStory (GMS) client. Nexon says Grand Launch is October 21, 2026. Founder's Access, for qualifying Founder's Package holders, began October 6, 2026. After the first mention, this guide calls the game Classic World. It is written for players starting on the Grand Launch date, though Founder's Access players can use the same list.
The dates that matter
Nexon's FAQ states that Grand Launch is October 21, 2026. It also states that progress made during Founder's Access carries directly into Grand Launch, with no wipe between the two. That matters if you compare yourself with players who started earlier. They have a head start, and it stays.
Two event dates sit close to launch. Per Nexon's release notes, the Founder's First Step daily check-in (level 10 and up, handled by the Maple Administrator) runs from October 6 until the day before Grand Launch. Do not plan around it on October 21. The same notes say the Mark of Beta event is planned to begin at Grand Launch. Nexon calls it planned, so treat the start as expected, not guaranteed.
| Date | Event | Detail |
|---|
| August 21, 2026 | Launch dates set | Grand Launch was set for October 21, 2026 in Nexon's Ossyria Exploration Report. |
| September 2, 2026 | Founder's Packages on sale | Three tiers: Snail, Orange Mushroom and Zakum. |
| September 29, 2026 | FAQ and pre-download | Nexon published the Classic World FAQ and pre-download instructions for Nexon Launcher and Steam. |
| October 6, 2026 | Founder's Access begins | Qualifying Founder's Package holders can start. Progress carries into Grand Launch. |
| October 21, 2026 | Grand Launch | Classic World opens to everyone. The Mark of Beta event is planned to begin. |
The table shows a short runway. The FAQ and pre-download went up on September 29, 2026, so the install step has been open for weeks. Servers open at 11:00 AM PDT on October 21 (6:00 PM UTC, 7:00 PM in the UK, 8:00 PM CEST), per Nexon's FAQ; our release date page has every region.
Step one: install before launch day
Nexon's FAQ says you can pre-download Classic World. The company published instructions for both Nexon Launcher and Steam on September 29, 2026. Nexon's release notes add that the game runs inside the existing GMS client, on Nexon Launcher or Steam, on Windows and macOS.
- Pick a launcher. Nexon Launcher or Steam. Both are supported.
- Follow Nexon's pre-download instructions. They are the ones published on September 29, 2026.
- Check your platform. macOS is supported through the macOS beta. Nexon's FAQ has the install steps and a known-issues note, so read the note before launch day.
- Set your language. English is supported. Spanish is in beta.
- Decide on controls. Key bindings come in Classic Style and Modern Style, which uses WASD movement. Both are listed in the release notes.
- Turn on a controller if you use one. Nexon officially supports Xbox, DualShock and DualSense controllers over USB or Bluetooth. Enable Controller Support is off by default and must be switched on in Game Options. Nexon says other controllers may not work.
Nexon's FAQ also has an answer on running MapleStory and Classic World at the same time. Our sources do not restate it, so check the current FAQ text if you plan to have both open.
Step two: check your account
Several account rules catch new players. Here is what Nexon's FAQ and release notes say.
- Characters do not transfer. Nothing moves between MapleStory worlds and Classic World except your NX balance. Characters, names, items and Maple Points stay where they are. Classic World characters are created fresh on Maple Island. That includes Challenger World characters.
- NX is shared; little else is. Maple Points stay in MapleStory. MVP benefits do not apply. Classic World has its own Leaf Points as an alternative Cash currency.
- Founder's Packages cannot be bought with NX.
- Sanctions cross over. Nexon's September memo states that account sanctions apply across Global MapleStory and Global MapleStory Classic World. A ban in one is a ban in both.
- Character names. Nexon's FAQ addresses whether names are shared between the two games. Our sources do not give the answer, so read the current FAQ before you settle on a name.
- Slots. Per the release notes, each account holds up to 3 characters. Deleting a character starts a waiting period before it is removed. The length of that wait is not in our sources.
The slot limit shapes your class decision. With up to 3 characters, you can try more than one branch, but a deleted character does not free its slot at once. Plan the first slot with that in mind.
Step three: decide on a class
Per mapleclassic.wiki, launch has four job branches: Warrior, Magician, Bowman and Thief. There is also Beginner, and first and second job advancement. Third job is not available. The level at which you can advance is not in the sources for this guide, so this checklist does not state it. Our second job guide covers the towns and paths.
We will not name a best class. The sources do not support one without a level band, a party setup and a budget. Use these questions instead.
- Do you want to play alone or in a party? The Kerning City Party Quest opens at level 21 per the release notes, and party members must be on the same channel to play together.
- Do you care about gear costs? Our published guides on the Fighter, the Page, Magician level 30 builds and Thief level 30 builds cover the loadout trade-offs for each. Read the one for your branch.
- Do you want crafting? Crafting opens from level 10, with six crafting NPCs: Smithing, Weaponcrafting, Tailoring, Woodcrafting, Leatherworking and Arcforge. The sources we use do not tie crafting to a branch.
You will play as a Beginner on Maple Island regardless. That gives you time to read before committing. Maple Island covers levels 1 to 10, per mapleclassic.wiki, and Victoria Island is for level 10 and up. The branch choice comes after that stretch.
Step four: plan the first session
This route is our suggestion, built from the level gates Nexon and the wiki list. It is not a Nexon-published path.
- Create a Beginner and play Maple Island. Levels 1 to 10 are the whole continent's range, per the wiki.
- Reach level 10 and head to Victoria Island. Lith Harbor is one of its towns, along with Henesys, Ellinia, Perion, Kerning City and Sleepywood. Our Lith Harbor guide covers the first steps there.
- Look at crafting. It unlocks from level 10, so the first Victoria Island trip is the moment to find the six crafting NPCs.
- Take on Citizenship at level 12. Per the release notes, Henesys and Kerning City residents get shop, cab and storage perks. The notes do not say what those perks cost or how large they are.
- Sell with care. Our guide on first mesos covers what to sell and what to keep. The Free Market is live at launch, per the release notes, but this guide has no price data for it.
- Work toward level 21. That is where the Kerning City Party Quest opens, and King Slime is inside it.
If a map is crowded, change channel. Nexon's FAQ says to click the channel button at the bottom of the screen or press the channel key, then pick another number. The same map loads with a different crowd. Monsters, drops and quests are identical on every channel, so you lose nothing by switching.
Classic World has one world, Windia. Nexon's FAQ says it added two channels in mid-October without a news post, and the change showed up in the in-game channel list. Read the list in the client for the current total. Nexon has not announced a second world. Whether the channel count will be enough on October 21 is not something the data can tell us.
What the data does not tell us
Our sources list counts but not rates. The wiki's monster table holds 66 monsters at launch, across Victoria Island and Maple Island. It includes Forgotten Hollow's entries, which cannot be reached for now. The wiki also lists 221 quests at launch. These counts show the size of the content. They do not say how long it takes, how fast EXP comes, or how often anything drops. No spawn counts and no drop rates are recorded in our sources, so this guide gives none.
Nexon's release notes also set a maximum character level. We do not restate it here. Nothing in our sources tells us how quickly players will approach it, and we will not guess.
What not to expect on October 21
Some content is not in the game. Do not plan your first week around any of it.
- Forgotten Hollow. Nexon says the path leading there has not been discovered yet and plans to add it later. Its maps, quests and the Rotten Mushmom boss cannot be reached until Nexon opens it.
- Orbis, El Nath and the rest of Ossyria. Per mapleclassic.wiki, they are held back to be reworked and introduced gradually after launch.
- Third job. Third job advancement is not available at launch, per the wiki. Fourth job is not available either.
- Post-Big Bang content. The wiki's Differences page says nothing from after the Big Bang update is part of Classic World. That means no Pirates, Cygnus Knights, Aran or Evan, and no later continents.
- A Zakum fight. Zakum is the name of the top Founder's Package tier. There is no Zakum boss at launch.
What can you fight? Nexon's release notes list five bosses to challenge during Founder's Access: Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog. King Slime is a sixth, inside the Kerning City Party Quest. The notes cover Founder's Access, and our sources do not say whether the list changes at Grand Launch. Shade is not yet documented on mapleclassic.wiki, so expect fewer details on it than on the others. We have published boss guides for Mano, Mushmom, Zombie Mushmom and King Slime.
Package notes for late arrivals
If you bought a package, check its tier. Nexon's FAQ says only the Orange Mushroom and Zakum Packages include Founder's Access from October 6. The Snail Package does not. Its items are the Mark of the Founder (Tan), Glimmer of the Founder, Jr. Balrog Invasion transformation items and the Well-Loved Outfit Set. Each higher tier includes the lower tier's items. Steam sells only the Zakum tier, and the other tiers are sold through Nexon's own store. Nexon's FAQ covers upgrades and item expiry. We do not restate prices because they can change.
The short checklist
- Pre-download through Nexon Launcher or Steam.
- Check your platform notes, and turn on Enable Controller Support if you use a controller.
- Confirm your account rules, especially the shared sanctions and the 3 character slots.
- Choose a branch with a stated condition: solo or party, and your gear budget.
- Start on Maple Island, move to Victoria Island at level 10 and aim for level 21.
- Change channel if a map is full.
- Skip anything from the not-at-launch list.
