After reading this you will be able to spend every second-job SP point of a Fire/Poison Wizard from level 30 to level 70 with a reason attached, choose a training map for your level band, and tell which numbers are confirmed and which are not. This is a MapleStory Classic World guide. The game runs inside the Global MapleStory (GMS) client, Founder's Access opened on October 6, 2026, and Grand Launch is October 21, 2026. From here on we call it Classic World.

Assumptions and sources

Every result below assumes a level 30 Fire/Poison Wizard in Windia, playing solo unless a row says otherwise, holding a wand or a staff. No source we hold gives a potion budget, so we quote no potion cost per hour. Skill MP costs and monster stats come from mapleclassic.wiki data. The level 70 skill targets, accuracy figures, gear list and EXP per minute benchmarks come from NiaMeowDB, which models one realistic level 70 build. We label each of those "per NiaMeowDB" and keep its per minute units rather than converting them to per hour.

Background: Magician is the INT branch, and first job advancement is at level 8 in Ellinia. At level 30 you pick Wizard (Fire/Poison), Wizard (Ice/Lightning) or Cleric. The Fire/Poison Wizard is a tier 2 job in Ellinia, uses a Wand or Staff, and has INT as its primary stat. Third job is not available at launch and the maximum level is 100, so this guide stops at level 70, where our data stops.

Every skill with its numbers

Six second-job skills are listed. The table gives MP cost from skill level 1 to max, then the effect at max level (Slow at level 1) per NiaMeowDB. The wiki data lists no damage percentage for any of them, so we give none.

SkillMax levelMP cost (level 1 to max)RequiresEffect (per NiaMeowDB)
Fire Arrow3014 to 28NoneBasic Attack 180, Mastery level 10, plus 50 Basic Attack burn over 3 sec
MP Eater20Not listedNone50% success rate per attack, absorbs 50% of the enemy's Max MP
Meditation2015 to 25MP Eater Lv 3Party Magic Attack +25 for 300 sec
Poison Breath3020 to 40NoneBasic Attack 80, Mastery level 10, 75% success rate, 40 Basic Attack over 5 sec
Slow2015 to 8Teleport Lv 5Enemy Speed -10, Evasion -1 for 10 sec
Teleport2055 to 15None150 distance at level 20; level 10 costs 37 MP and moves 128 px

Read the table as cost curves. Fire Arrow and Poison Breath get pricier as you level them: at max, Poison Breath costs 40 MP and Fire Arrow 28 MP, so each Poison Breath cast is 12 MP dearer. Teleport runs the other way, falling from 55 MP at skill level 1 to 15 MP at skill level 20, a drop of 40 MP per jump, so its points repay themselves in potions. Meditation boosts spell damage only; per NiaMeowDB it does nothing for weapon damage.

The sources differ on Poison Breath's reach. The wiki-derived sheet lists 1 target. NiaMeowDB describes a projectile that hits one mob, followed by a contact blast that can reach up to six neighbors. We treat the blast as unconfirmed until the wiki lists it. Per NiaMeowDB, poison ticks once per second for 5 seconds, does not stack, and a fresh cast on a poisoned mob only resets the timer.

Build order from level 30 to 70, with reasons

Points earned after advancing go only into second-job skills, so finish your first-job plan before level 30. NiaMeowDB compares three first-job layouts:

First-job skillBudgetSaferLevel 70 model
Energy Bolt20201
Magic Claw0020
Improved MP Recovery3315
Max MP Increase15152
Magic Guard3153
Magic Armor20820

The safer layout shifts 12 SP from Magic Armor into Magic Guard. The level 70 model requires an SP Reset Scroll, priced at 7,000 NX in the Cash Shop per NiaMeowDB. Any of the three leads into this class.

For the job test, per NiaMeowDB you collect 30 Dark Marbles and exchange them for The Proof of a Hero. The SP order below is NiaMeowDB's; the reasons are our reading of it.

LevelsSpendRunning totalWhy
30Teleport +1Teleport 1Gets you onto platforms, though each jump costs 55 MP
31 to 39Fire Arrow +27Fire Arrow 27Builds your main single-target spell
40Fire Arrow +3Fire Arrow 30Caps direct hit, Mastery and burn
41 to 49Poison Breath +27Poison Breath 27Adds the multi-mob tool
50Poison Breath +3Poison Breath 30Caps it
51MP Eater +3MP Eater 3Opens Meditation
52 to 57Meditation +18Meditation 18Lifts party spell damage
58Meditation +2, MP Eater +1Meditation 20, MP Eater 4Caps the buff
59 to 63MP Eater +15MP Eater 19Starts the potion-saving passive in earnest
64MP Eater +1, Teleport +2MP Eater 20, Teleport 3Caps MP Eater
65 to 69Teleport +15Teleport 18Lowers jump cost and extends range
70Teleport +2, Slow +1Teleport 20, Slow 1Ends the model at its target

The pattern is one dependable attack at a time. Fire Arrow works on every map, so it leads. Poison Breath is the crowd tool, so it follows. Meditation and MP Eater are support and sustain, so they wait. Teleport gets one early point for movement and the bulk late. Slow needs Teleport Lv 5 first, so it is only reachable once Teleport is moving along.

Fire Arrow first, or Poison Breath first?

This is the one real fork. NiaMeowDB measured EXP per minute at level 40 on the top launch map in its Training Advisor, varying how many mobs each Poison Breath catches.

Mobs hit per Poison BreathFire Arrow first (EXP per minute)Poison Breath first (EXP per minute)
13,2392,741
23,2393,908
33,2395,862
43,2397,815

The Fire Arrow column is flat because it always hits one target. The Poison Breath column climbs with each extra mob. With a single mob, a maxed Energy Bolt or Magic Claw at 20 outdamages Poison Breath at 30, so the 2,741 figure is really the first-job spell's result. Poison Breath overtakes at two mobs. NiaMeowDB still puts Fire Arrow first, since spread-out mobs rarely give you two per cast. If you reliably catch 3 or more, swap the two blocks (levels 31 to 40 and 41 to 50).

Mostly fighting one mob at a time? NiaMeowDB suggests MP Eater 3 at level 41 and a maxed Meditation ahead of Poison Breath, claiming up to 12% more single-target damage. If moving around platforms matters more to you than early Poison Breath, put points into Teleport right after Fire Arrow 30.

Two timing notes per NiaMeowDB. On mobs with no element weakness, stay on Energy Bolt or Magic Claw until Fire Arrow hits skill level 21 at level 37. On fire-weak mobs, Fire Arrow wins from skill level 13 at level 35. Weak mobs take 25% more damage; resistant mobs take 25% less and cannot be burned. Poison follows the same rule.

Stats, accuracy and gear

Per NiaMeowDB, the level 70 target is 299 base INT and 63 base LUK. INT feeds damage, MP and accuracy.

LevelsAP each levelBase stats at the end
31 to 40INT +3, LUK +2172 INT, 40 LUK
41 to 63INT +4, LUK +1264 INT, 63 LUK
64 to 70INT +5299 INT, 63 LUK

LUK exists mainly to meet gear requirements. The model reaches 65 total LUK through equipment for Angel Wings, so check your worn total before adding more. Weapon checkpoints per NiaMeowDB:

LevelItemM.ATKRequires
30Mithril Wand5560 INT, 20 LUK
40Fairy Wand6980 INT, 30 LUK
50Cromi83100 INT, 40 LUK
60Evil Tale97120 INT, 55 LUK
70Angel Wings111140 INT, 65 LUK

NiaMeowDB says weapon speed leaves spell casting untouched, so between a wand and a staff, pick whichever has more M.ATK that your INT and LUK can wear. For shields, the Pan Lid (level 10) gives an 8.09% Guard chance, while the Esther Shield (level 35) gives 5.30% but carries stronger magic defense. On gloves, five Magic Attack scrolls edge out five Critical Rate scrolls by about 1.77% expected damage on this build.

Accuracy grows after level 30 by 0.39 per level, 0.24 per INT, 0.12 per LUK and 1.00 per point of direct ACC. NiaMeowDB lists the ACC needed to never miss at equal level:

MobMob levelMob AvoidACC to never miss
Jr. Wraith342582
Zombie Lupin412995
Wraith4832104

Where to train, by band

Using wiki data, we ranked monsters in the 30 to 70 band by EXP per HP point. That is our derived ranking. It tells you what each point of HP is worth, not how fast a map pays out. Top ten, with one sample map each:

RankMonsterLevelHPEXPEXP/HPWeak toSample map (count)

9Ligator31853580.068FireThe Swamp of Despair I (41)
10Jr. Wraith34982660.067Fire, HolyLine 2 (Area 1) (83)

For a level 30 to 40 solo Fire/Poison Wizard, the four Fairy variants are Poison-weak, but they are level 29 and Poison Breath is not leveled until 41, so fight them with first-job spells. Ligator is Fire-weak, which counts once Fire Arrow reaches skill level 13 at level 35 per NiaMeowDB. It fills The Swamp of Despair I (41), The Swamp of Despair II (36) and The Swamp of Despair III (28). Jr. Wraith is weak to Fire and Holy, with large counts on Line 1 (Area 2) (69), Line 1 (Area 3) (31) and Line 2 (Area 2) (32). Fire Boar is Ice-weak, so Fire Arrow has no listed edge there; the sheet gives no fire resistance for it and we state none.

NiaMeowDB's own EXP per minute benchmarks, from its Training Advisor on its chosen maps:

LevelMain skillMap (per NiaMeowDB)EXP per minute
30Energy BoltLine 1 (Area 1)2,074
40Fire ArrowAnt Tunnel II3,239
50Poison BreathAnt Tunnel IV14,023
50Fire ArrowLine 1 (Area 2)4,388
60Poison BreathAnt Tunnel III19,318
60Fire ArrowTree Dungeon, Forest Up North IX4,667

The gap between the Poison Breath and Fire Arrow rows at levels 50 and 60 comes from dense maps where the blast reaches several mobs. It reflects the map as much as the skill, so do not treat it as a flat Poison Breath multiplier. Line 1 (Area 2) is the comfortable middle option for single-target play: per NiaMeowDB, Jr. Wraith and Stirge there fall to one Fire Arrow cast each.

How it differs from the sibling paths

The other level 30 choices are Wizard (Ice/Lightning) and Cleric. Our fact sheet lists neither one's skills or numbers, so we make no damage comparison. The monster table does give an element map: Iron Hog is weak to Lightning, Fire Boar to Ice, and Jr. Wraith to Holy as well as Fire. A Fire/Poison Wizard has the edge on Ligator and Jr. Wraith, Poison covers the Fairy variants, and neither element has a listed edge on Evil Eye or Golden Stirge. For Cleric potion costs, our separate meso management guide covers it. The Fire/Poison Wizard's own support is Meditation, 25 Magic Attack to the party, with MP Eater as the potion-saving passive.

What the data does not tell us

  • The wiki table lists no damage percentage per skill level for any skill here.
  • No drop rates are recorded for any ranked monster, so EXP per HP says nothing about meso income.
  • No respawn times are recorded, so a map's mob count does not show how fast it refills.
  • NiaMeowDB's EXP per minute figures come from one modeled build; the wiki publishes no equivalent.
  • Third job is not available at launch, so nothing here extends past second job.

Frequently asked

What is the best skill build for a Fire/Poison Wizard in Classic World?
There is no single answer without conditions. For a solo level 30 to 50 Fire/Poison Wizard, NiaMeowDB maxes Fire Arrow first (levels 31 to 40), then Poison Breath (levels 41 to 50). If you consistently hit 3 or more mobs per cast, it suggests swapping the order.
What does a Fire/Poison Wizard learn first at level 30?
Per NiaMeowDB, the first point goes into Teleport 1 for platform movement, even though it costs 55 MP per cast at skill level 1. Fire Arrow then takes the points from levels 31 to 39.
How much MP do Fire Arrow and Poison Breath cost?
Per the wiki data, Fire Arrow costs 14 MP at skill level 1 and 28 MP at max level 30. Poison Breath costs 20 MP at level 1 and 40 MP at max level 30.
Does Meditation work on weapon damage?
No. Per NiaMeowDB, Meditation gives nearby party members 25 Magic Attack for 300 seconds at max level, and it only boosts spell damage. It requires MP Eater Lv 3.
Where should a level 30 Fire/Poison Wizard train?
By EXP per HP, Ligator (Fire-weak, level 31) in The Swamp of Despair I is one listed option, as is Jr. Wraith (weak to Fire and Holy) on Line 1 (Area 2). Per NiaMeowDB, Line 1 (Area 1) with Energy Bolt gives about 2,074 EXP per minute at level 30.
