After reading this guide you will know the level, the town and (where it is listed) the instructor for the first job of every branch in MapleStory Classic World, called Classic World from here on. You will also see the skills the wiki lists for each branch, and you will know which details the data does not give us. Classic World is Nexon's recreation of pre-Big Bang MapleStory, and it runs inside the existing Global MapleStory (GMS) client. Launch has four job branches (Warrior, Magician, Bowman and Thief) plus Beginner, with first and second job advancement only.
Quick answer: level and town for every branch
Job advancement [changing from Beginner to a branch class, or from a first job to a second job] is the first big decision in Classic World. The table below collects the figures. Per mapleclassic.wiki, Warrior, Bowman and Thief advance at level 10, and Magician advances earlier, at level 8.
| Branch | Primary stat | First job level | First job town | Instructor listed | Tier 1 weapons | Second job level | Second jobs |
|---|
| Warrior | STR | 10 | Perion | Not listed | Sword, Axe, Blunt weapon, Spear, Polearm | 30 | Fighter, Page, Spearman |
| Magician | INT | 8 | Ellinia | Grendel the Really Old | Wand, Staff | 30 | Wizard (Fire/Poison), Wizard (Ice/Lightning), Cleric |
| Bowman | DEX | 10 | Henesys | Not listed | Bow, Crossbow | 30 | Hunter, Crossbowman |
| Thief | LUK | 10 | Kerning City | Not listed | Dagger, Claw | 30 | Assassin, Bandit |
| Beginner | Varies | n/a | Maple Island | n/a | Not listed | n/a | None |
Read the table in order. Start with the level column: Warrior, Bowman and Thief advance at level 10, while Magician advances at level 8. Then read the town column: each branch has its own town on Victoria Island, so you cannot advance into a branch from just any town. Those towns are Perion, Henesys, Kerning City and Ellinia. Victoria Island has six towns at launch (Henesys, Ellinia, Perion, Kerning City, Lith Harbor and Sleepywood), and Lith Harbor and Sleepywood are not first job towns in this data.
The primary stat column uses STR (strength), INT (intelligence), DEX (dexterity) and LUK (luck). The wiki names one primary stat per branch, which is the stat that branch is built around. The weapon column shows what each branch uses at tier 1 [the first job rank; Beginner is tier 0].
Before you travel: a checklist
Work through these steps before you leave for a first job town. Each one prevents a trip that would have to be repeated.
- Open your character window and read your level. You should now see a single level number. If it is below the figure in the table for your chosen branch, keep training before you travel.
- Decide on your branch and read its primary stat in the table. The wiki lists that stat as the one the branch is built around, so it is worth knowing before you commit.
- Check the weapon types for that branch. The first job is tier 1, and the weapon list in the table is what the wiki gives for it.
- Find out how you will reach the town. The data we have does not record routes between maps, so this guide does not invent one. Victoria Island is listed as level 10 and up, and the Victoria Island's Six Towns guide on this site explains what each town is for.
- Check your inventory and HP (health points) before the trip, so a stray monster on the way does not send you back to the start.
Warrior: level 10 in Perion
Per mapleclassic.wiki, the Warrior branch uses STR as its primary stat and advances at level 10 in Perion. Follow these steps.
- Reach level 10 as a Beginner.
- Travel to Perion. You should now see the Perion town map on your screen.
- Find the Warrior instructor. The data we have does not name this NPC (non-player character), so we do not guess a name.
- Talk to the instructor and accept the advancement. You should now see your class listed as Warrior on your character window.
The wiki lists six Warrior skills. Power Strike has a maximum level of 20, an MP (mana points) cost that runs from 4 to 12, and a damage of 260 percent on 1 hit against 1 target. Slash Blast has a maximum level of 20, the same MP range of 4 to 12, and a damage of 130 percent on 1 hit against 1 target; it requires Power Strike at level 1. The remaining four are Improved HP Recovery (maximum level 15), Max HP Increase (maximum level 15), Precise Strikes (maximum level 15) and Iron Body (maximum level 20, MP cost 15).
The prerequisites form a chain that matters when you plan SP (skill points). Iron Body requires Max HP Increase at level 3, and Max HP Increase requires Improved HP Recovery at level 3. That means Iron Body cannot be reached without first spending points on two other skills. Plan for that order before you spend anything.
Magician: level 8 in Ellinia
Per mapleclassic.wiki, the Magician branch uses INT as its primary stat and advances at level 8 in Ellinia. This is the only branch with a named instructor in our data: Grendel the Really Old.
- Reach level 8 as a Beginner.
- Travel to Ellinia. You should now see the Ellinia town map.
- Find Grendel the Really Old and talk to him.
- Accept the advancement. You should now see your class listed as Magician and the Magician skills in your skill window.
The Magician skills are Energy Bolt, Magic Claw, Magic Guard, Magic Armor, Improved MP Recovery and Max MP Increase. Energy Bolt has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost that starts at 6, 1 hit and 1 target. Magic Claw has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost from 10 to 20, 2 hits and 1 target, and it requires Energy Bolt at level 1. Magic Guard has a maximum level of 15 and an MP cost from 8 to 12. Magic Armor has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost that starts at 8, and it requires Magic Guard at level 3. Max MP Increase has a maximum level of 15 and requires Improved MP Recovery at level 3, which also has a maximum level of 15.
The wiki table gives no damage percentage for any Magician skill, so we cannot compare Energy Bolt and Magic Claw by damage here. What the data does show is that Magic Claw costs more MP than Energy Bolt and hits 2 times where Energy Bolt hits 1 time.
Bowman: level 10 in Henesys
Per mapleclassic.wiki, the Bowman branch uses DEX as its primary stat and advances at level 10 in Henesys.
- Reach level 10 as a Beginner.
- Travel to Henesys. You should now see the Henesys town map.
- Find the Bowman instructor. The data we have does not name this NPC.
- Talk to the instructor and accept the advancement. You should now see your class listed as Bowman.
Arrow Blow has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost that starts at 6, and a damage of 240 percent on 1 hit against 1 target. Double Shot has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost that starts at 8, and a damage of 120 percent on 1 hit against 2 targets; it requires Arrow Blow at level 1. The two skills trade damage for reach: Arrow Blow shows 240 percent against 1 target, and Double Shot shows 120 percent against 2 targets.
The other four are Critical Shot (maximum level 15), Power Knockback (maximum level 15), The Eye of Amazon (maximum level 15) and Focus (maximum level 20, MP cost starting at 8). Focus requires The Eye of Amazon at level 3, so Focus is locked until you have put points into that skill first.
Thief: level 10 in Kerning City
Per mapleclassic.wiki, the Thief branch uses LUK as its primary stat and advances at level 10 in Kerning City.
- Reach level 10 as a Beginner.
- Travel to Kerning City. You should now see the Kerning City town map.
- Find the Thief instructor. The data we have does not name this NPC.
- Talk to the instructor and accept the advancement. You should now see your class listed as Thief.
The Thief list has three attack skills. Disorder has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost from 5 to 10, and a damage of 100 percent on 1 hit against 1 target. Double Stab has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost that starts at 8, and a damage of 160 percent on 2 hits against 1 target. Lucky Seven has a maximum level of 20, an MP cost that starts at 8, and a damage of 120 percent on 1 hit against 1 target. The wiki does not say whether the damage figure for Double Stab applies to each hit or to both together, so do not add the hits up yourself.
The support skills are Nimble Body (maximum level 15), Keen Eyes (maximum level 15) and Dark Sight (maximum level 20). Keen Eyes requires Nimble Body at level 3. Dark Sight requires Disorder at level 3. Its MP cost is the one listed range that runs downward, ending at 30, which means the cost drops as the skill levels up.
Attack skills compared
This table gathers the attack skills from the four branches. The MP column shows only the low end of the wiki's listed range, so you can compare where each skill starts; the wiki has the full range. Blank cells are blank in the wiki data, and we mark them as not listed rather than filling them in.
| Branch | Skill | Max level | MP cost, low end | Damage % | Hits | Targets | Requires |
|---|
| Warrior | Power Strike | 20 | 4 | 260 | 1 | 1 | None |
| Warrior | Slash Blast | 20 | 4 | 130 | 1 | 1 | Power Strike Lv 1 |
| Magician | Energy Bolt | 20 | 6 | Not listed | 1 | 1 | None |
| Magician | Magic Claw | 20 | 10 | Not listed | 2 | 1 | Energy Bolt Lv 1 |
| Bowman | Arrow Blow | 20 | 6 | 240 | 1 | 1 | None |
| Bowman | Double Shot | 20 | 8 | 120 | 1 | 2 | Arrow Blow Lv 1 |
| Thief | Disorder | 20 | 5 | 100 | 1 | 1 | None |
| Thief | Double Stab | 20 | 8 | 160 | 2 | 1 | None |
| Thief | Lucky Seven | 20 | 8 | 120 | 1 | 1 | None |
The point of the table is the pattern, not a ranking. Every attack skill tops out at level 20. For Warrior, Magician and Bowman, the second attack skill is locked behind the first at level 1. Thief is the exception: none of its attack skills lists a prerequisite. No element is listed for any skill, and the table cannot tell you which skill is better in a given situation, because damage per MP depends on figures the wiki has not recorded for every skill.
Beginner: no first job level
Beginner is tier 0, and the wiki lists its first job advancement level as n/a, with Maple Island as its location. Beginner has no second job. Its skills each have a maximum level of 3: Nimble Feet (MP cost from 4 to 10), Recovery (MP cost from 5 to 15) and Three Snails (MP cost from 3 to 5). None of them lists a damage figure, a hit count or a prerequisite.
Maple Island covers levels 1 to 10, and Victoria Island is level 10 and up. Magician advances at level 8 in Ellinia, which is a Victoria Island town, and our data does not explain how a level 8 character reaches it. We flag that gap here instead of guessing.
What the data does not tell us
- Instructor names for Warrior, Bowman and Thief are not listed. Only Grendel the Really Old is named.
- Routes from Maple Island or between towns are not recorded, so we give none.
- Job advancement quests or tests are not described in our data. We cannot say whether a quest, an item or a fee stands between you and the instructor.
- Magician damage percentages are blank, as are the elements for every skill.
- SP amounts you receive at advancement are not listed, so this guide gives no starting allocation.
When the wiki fills these gaps, they are the first things this guide should be updated with.
What is not part of launch, and when you can start
Per mapleclassic.wiki, third job advancement is not available at launch, and Orbis, El Nath and the rest of Ossyria are held back. Nothing from after the Big Bang update is part of Classic World, so Pirates, Cygnus Knights, Aran and Evan are not in the game. The second jobs at level 30 are the end of the line for now.
Nexon's FAQ states that Founder's Access begins on October 6, 2026 for players with a qualifying Founder's Package, and that Grand Launch is October 21, 2026. Nexon also says progress made during Founder's Access carries directly into Grand Launch with no wipe between the two, so a first job taken early stays with your character.
