After reading this you can pick a second job in MapleStory Classic World by the goal you care about, instead of trusting one overall rank. Each of the ten jobs is placed for pack grinding, boss damage, MP efficiency, survival and party support, and each placement points to the number behind it.
Assumptions before any grade
Tier lists depend on goals. A job that tops a boss-damage column can sit near the bottom of a pack-grinding column, so this page has no single overall rank. Every figure below assumes the following:
- Level 70, first and second job only. Third job is not available at launch, and Nexon lists the maximum character level as 100. Level 70 on a second job is therefore a plausible stretch of the ladder.
- Realistic builds, not perfect gear. Damage and survival figures come from NiaMeowDB's level 70 benchmark builds, aimed at a target with 0 defense. We treat NiaMeowDB as a truth source alongside mapleclassic.wiki.
- Per second and per minute, not per hour. The benchmark reports damage per second (DPS), casts per minute and damage per MP. No EXP per hour or EXP per kill figure for any second job is listed in our data, so we give none.
- No level 30 benchmark. Skill levels at your job advancement are far lower than in the benchmark, so the order at level 30 may differ. We have no per-job figures for that band.
Per mapleclassic.wiki, second job opens at level 30 across four branches. Warriors advance in Perion and split into Fighter, Page and Spearman. Magicians advance in Ellinia (first job at level 8) and split into Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard and Cleric. Bowmen advance in Henesys and split into Hunter and Crossbowman. Thieves advance in Kerning City and split into Assassin and Bandit. That is ten second jobs.
The numbers behind the list
This table is built from NiaMeowDB's comparison data, sorted by single-target DPS. EHP means effective HP: how much damage a build absorbs once defenses, expected misses and defensive buffs are counted. The damage-per-MP column uses the two-decimal values from NiaMeowDB's comparison table; its separate DPS ranking page rounds the same figures to one decimal, so you may see 141.7 elsewhere for Bandit.
| Job | Single-target DPS | AoE DPS | Damage per MP | Physical EHP | Magic EHP |
|---|
| Bandit | 5,469 | 3,431 | 141.68 | ~4,730 | ~2,280 |
| Assassin | 4,266 | none listed | 159.99 | ~3,930 | ~2,280 |
| Fighter | 4,202 | 13,287 | 253.12 | ~4,150 | ~3,210 |
| Hunter | 4,088 | 11,811 | 164.19 | ~2,680 | ~2,200 |
| Page | 4,015 | 11,080 | 230.83 | ~4,340 | ~3,260 |
| Crossbowman | 3,704 | 9,766 | 174.15 | ~2,680 | ~2,200 |
| Spearman | 3,651 | 9,875 | 203.26 | ~4,510 | ~3,260 |
| Fire/Poison Wizard | 2,666 | 10,253 | 77.20 | ~5,430 | ~5,340 |
| Ice/Lightning Wizard | 2,518 | 6,221 | 92.79 | ~5,240 | ~5,340 |
| Cleric | 2,193 | none listed | 63.51 | ~7,970 | ~6,280 |
Read it in three passes. First, single-target DPS: Bandit's 5,469 per second sits well above Cleric's 2,193 per second, with the three warriors, two bowmen and Assassin clustered in the middle. Second, AoE DPS: Fighter's 13,287 per second leads, with Hunter at 11,811 and Page at 11,080 behind it. Third, survival: the Magician branch has the highest EHP, led by Cleric at ~7,970 physical, while Hunter and Crossbowman share the lowest at ~2,680 physical and ~2,200 magic. Magic EHP gets its own column because physical and magic hits are mitigated differently.
The grades, column by column
NiaMeowDB assigns S, A and B letters per column and rates Support on a 1 to 5 scale. Slows, stuns and buffs count only in Support, never in the damage or survival columns. The letters below are NiaMeowDB's; our tiers in the next section are built from them.
| Job | AoE grade | Single-target grade | Damage per MP grade | Physical EHP grade | Support rating |
|---|
| Fighter | S | A | S | B | 3.5 |
| Page | S | A | S | B | 3.5 |
| Spearman | A | A | S | A | 1.5 |
| Fire/Poison Wizard | S | B | B | A | 3.5 |
| Ice/Lightning Wizard | B | B | B | A | 3.5 |
| Cleric | none listed | B | B | S | 5.0 |
| Hunter | S | A | A | B | 2.5 |
| Crossbowman | A | A | A | B | 1.5 |
| Assassin | none listed | A | A | B | 3.0 |
| Bandit | B | S | A | B | 3.0 |
Notice how few jobs are S everywhere. Fighter and Page collect S grades for pack damage and MP efficiency but only B for survival. Bandit alone holds S for single-target damage and falls to B on packs. Cleric is the only S for support and survival, and its damage grade is B. That spread is why a single rank would mislead.
Our tiers by goal
These placements are our reading of the grades above, at level 70 with realistic builds. They are not NiaMeowDB's own ranking.
| Goal | S tier | A tier | B tier |
|---|
| Pack grinding | Fighter, Page, Hunter, Fire/Poison Wizard | Spearman, Crossbowman | Ice/Lightning Wizard, Bandit |
| Boss damage (single target) | Bandit | Assassin, Fighter, Hunter, Page, Crossbowman, Spearman | Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard, Cleric |
| MP efficiency | Fighter, Page, Spearman | Assassin, Hunter, Crossbowman, Bandit | Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard, Cleric |
| Survival (physical) | Cleric | Spearman, Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard | Fighter, Page, Hunter, Crossbowman, Assassin, Bandit |
| Party support | Cleric | Bandit, Assassin, Fighter, Page, Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard | Hunter, Crossbowman, Spearman |
Assassin and Cleric have no AoE figure in the data, so they are left out of the pack-grinding row rather than guessed. Cost is also absent: nothing in our data prices skill books, potions or gear, so this list says nothing about mesos per hour for any job. Read the MP columns as damage per MP, not as a budget.
Why each branch lands where it does
Warriors: Fighter, Page, Spearman
All three use STR and the same attack skills in the benchmark. The difference is swing rate. Per NiaMeowDB, Fighter lands 83.0 Power Strike casts per minute with its axe, while Page lands 65.3 and Spearman lands 66.2 with slower weapons. Per cast, Fighter and Page are close at 2,873 and 2,770 damage, so attack speed explains most of Fighter's lead in single-target DPS (4,202 against 4,015 per second).
At level 70 as a Fighter, pack grinding is the strongest case: 13,287 AoE DPS per second for 1,162 MP spent per minute on Slash Blast, with Bleed included per NiaMeowDB. Page is the same idea at a lower rate. Spearman trails on damage but keeps strong MP efficiency at 203.26 damage per MP, and its physical EHP (~4,510) is above Page's (~4,340). Its Support rating of 1.5 is the weak spot in a group. The wiki lists Iron Will as its buff skill, but NiaMeowDB does not turn that into a score near the 3.5 that Page receives.
Magicians: Fire/Poison Wizard, Ice/Lightning Wizard, Cleric
The Magician branch pays for survival and utility with damage. Fire/Poison Wizard has the best AoE of the branch at 10,253 per second, built on Poison Breath with all six targets poisoned and ticking once per second. Here the data disagree: mapleclassic.wiki's skill table lists Poison Breath with 1 hit and 1 target, while NiaMeowDB models a six-target cap. Treat that AoE grade as dependent on the modeling and check the wiki's current entry before planning around it.
Ice/Lightning Wizard's Thunder Bolt is listed on the wiki as hitting up to 6 targets, matching NiaMeowDB, but its 6,221 per second is well below Fire/Poison Wizard's. Its draw is Cold Beam on a single target, plus Teleport and Slow. Cleric's Holy Arrow hits up to 3 targets on the wiki's table, yet NiaMeowDB lists no AoE figure for it, so we cannot grade pack grinding. All three magic attack figures are neutral-element results; NiaMeowDB has a separate favorable view for weak or undead targets, which we do not quote here.
All three burn MP. Fire/Poison Wizard spends 2,072 MP per minute on single-target Fire Arrow, against 996 for Fighter on Power Strike. That is the cost behind the B grade in damage per MP. Meditation and MP Eater on the wiki's skill table soften it for the two Wizards, but neither is converted into a damage-per-MP figure.
Bowmen: Hunter, Crossbowman
Both Bowman jobs trade survival for distance. NiaMeowDB rates their range at 5.0 and mobility at 1.0, and their EHP is the lowest on the board. At level 70 as a Hunter, you out-damage the Crossbowman in both columns: 4,088 against 3,704 per second single target, and 11,811 against 9,766 AoE. Hunter swings a normal-speed bow for 68.1 Double Shot casts per minute, against 61.0 for the Crossbowman's slow crossbow.
A second source difference: the wiki lists Iron Arrow: Crossbow at 190% damage hitting 4 targets, while NiaMeowDB's AoE table uses a six-target cap. The Crossbowman's 9,766 per second may therefore be generous. The wiki records no target count for Arrow Bomb: Bow, so we cannot cross-check Hunter's figure the same way.
Thieves: Assassin, Bandit
Bandit holds the single-target top spot at 5,469 per second, but the number depends on Steal landing. The wiki lists Steal at 200% damage, 1 hit, requiring Haste at level 5, and Savage Blow at 75% damage over 6 hits on one target. NiaMeowDB counts the unconditional rate and shows a separate ceiling for the short buff Steal grants on success. Pack grinding is the weak spot: Steal spam, against a cap of 2 targets, gives 3,431 per second.
Assassin is the steadier single-target job: Lucky Seven at 100.0 casts per minute gives 4,266 per second at 160.0 damage per MP (159.99 in the comparison table). NiaMeowDB records no multi-target attack for it in first and second job. Its range rating is 4.5, so it fights from far away like a Bowman while keeping Haste and a claw.
What gear and shields do to the order
Per NiaMeowDB, a max-scrolled version of every build lifts the numbers without changing the order. Bandit goes from 5,469 to 8,794 per second, Assassin from 4,266 to 7,747, Fighter from 4,202 to 6,700, Hunter from 4,088 to 6,699 and Cleric from 2,193 to 3,364. Fighter and Hunter nearly tie once scrolled, at 6,700 and 6,699. Assassin gains the most at +81.6%, and Spearman the least among the physical jobs at +52.7%. Gear alone does not move a job a full tier, but Assassin rewards investment more than most.
NiaMeowDB also tests Fighter and Page with a one-hander and a Gold Ancient Shield, whose 29% guard chance is already inside the EHP figure.
| Build | Single-target DPS | AoE DPS | Damage per MP | Physical EHP |
|---|
| Fighter, two-handed axe | 4,202 | 13,287 | 253.12 | ~4,150 |
| Fighter, one-hander and shield | 3,848 | 12,249 | 192.40 | ~6,860 |
| Page, two-handed blunt | 4,015 | 11,080 | 230.83 | ~4,340 |
| Page, one-hander and shield | 3,305 | 9,032 | 167.27 | ~7,180 |
The shield costs Fighter about 8% of single-target DPS (4,202 down to 3,848) and Page about 18% (4,015 down to 3,305), per NiaMeowDB. Both gain a large physical EHP jump: from ~4,150 to ~6,860 for Fighter and from ~4,340 to ~7,180 for Page. For a run where one mistake is costly, Fighter's smaller cut makes the shield an easier call than it is for Page.
What the data does not tell us
- No spawn counts or drop rates. Nothing here records how many monsters a map holds or what they drop, so we cannot turn DPS into EXP per hour or mesos per hour.
- No potion budget. The benchmark counts MP spent per minute, but no potion prices are listed, so MP efficiency stays in damage per MP.
- No boss HP. Nexon's release notes list five bosses for Founder's Access: Mano, Mushmom, Shade, Zombie Mushmom and Jr. Balrog, plus King Slime inside the Kerning City Party Quest from level 21. We have no HP figures for them, so single-target DPS against a 0-defense target is a proxy, not a kill time.
- No level 30 benchmark. All damage figures are for level 70.
Founder's Access begins on October 6, 2026, and Grand Launch is October 21, 2026. Nexon says progress carries over with no wipe. If the first weeks change which job feels strong, expect this list to move with fresh data.
How to pick a job with this list
- Decide solo or party. Solo, weigh survival and MP efficiency. In a party, support and AoE count for more.
- Pick your target. Packs point to Fighter, Page, Hunter or Fire/Poison Wizard. Single-target bosses point to Bandit or Assassin.
- Check your MP budget. If potions are tight, the three warriors spend the least MP for their damage in the benchmark.
- Check survival. Hunter and Crossbowman share the lowest EHP, so they need space and positioning.
- Plan your slots. An account holds up to 3 characters, and deleting one starts a waiting period before it is removed.

Frequently asked
- Which second job has the highest damage in Classic World?
- At level 70 on realistic builds, Bandit has the highest single-target DPS at 5,469 per second, per NiaMeowDB. For packs, Fighter leads at 13,287 AoE DPS per second.
- Is there a best second job for beginners in Classic World?
- Not without conditions. At level 70, Cleric has the top support rating (5.0) and survival grade, while Fighter has the strongest damage per MP among the damage jobs. Your goal and budget decide it.
- Does the Classic World tier list include third job?
- No. Third job is not available at launch, so this list covers first and second job only, across ten second jobs.
- Is Cleric bad for solo play?
- Cleric has the lowest single-target DPS in the benchmark at 2,193 per second and no listed AoE figure. It also has the highest physical EHP at ~7,970, so it trades speed for staying power.
- How much damage does a shield cost Fighter and Page?
- Per NiaMeowDB, about 8% of single-target DPS for Fighter and about 18% for Page. Physical EHP rises from ~4,150 to ~6,860 for Fighter and from ~4,340 to ~7,180 for Page.
