Mark of the Beta Event Guide: Journal Page Locations
Who starts the Mark of the Beta event in MapleStory Classic World, the order of the quests, where each journal page sits, the 10 meso cost, and the hat reward.
By the end of this guide you will know who starts the Mark of the Beta event in MapleStory Classic World, the order of the quest stops, where each journal page sits on its map, what the trail costs, and what the hat gives you. I will also say plainly which parts our data does not cover yet. An event this new has gaps, and I would rather mark them than paper over them.
A note on sourcing. Nexon's Founder's Access release notes are the authority for when the event was planned to begin. mapleclassic.wiki is our authority for in-game numbers, but our files hold no event page from it. The locations, hints and hat stats below come from NiaMeowDB, which this site treats as a truth source alongside the wiki, and I attribute them to it. Every sentence is written in my own words.
What the event is and who can start it
Event quests of this kind exist to send players back through towns and fields they may have outgrown. The Mark of the Beta is built as a scavenger trail. You read a hint, work out which map it points to, walk there, and find a page from an old Adventurer's Journal. It tests how well you know the map, not how hard you hit.
Per NiaMeowDB, Jay in Henesys hands out the first quest, and your character needs to be level 25 or higher. Henesys is one of the six Victoria Island towns in Classic World, according to mapleclassic.wiki, so nothing needs unlocking beyond the level. A level 25 character is usually partway through the second-job climb, which means the event is open to people who are still building their characters.
On timing, Nexon's Founder's Access release notes said the Mark of Beta event was planned to begin at Grand Launch on October 21, 2026. Nexon's FAQ confirms Grand Launch took place on that date at 11:00 AM PDT. NiaMeowDB gives an end date, but the text I hold is cut off at that point, so I will not state one. Check the quest entry in your client for the current window before you plan around it.
One consequence follows from that. The event was planned for Grand Launch, so Founder's Access players could not have started it earlier. Nexon says progress from Founder's Access carried directly into Grand Launch with no wipe, so a Founder's Access character at level 25 or above can walk straight up to Jay.
The route at a glance
The table below sets out the quest chain as NiaMeowDB records it. The page labels are the numbers that source uses for the journal pages. They do not line up neatly with the quest names, and I explain why after the table.

Here is how to read it. The quest names run from The First Mark to The Final Mark, while the page labels run from 2 to 6. NiaMeowDB describes the event as six pages in total. One reading is that the opening quest with Jay accounts for page 1, but that is my inference and neither source states it. The last stop, Ant Tunnel Park, carries no page label at all. Treat the page numbers as a rough guide and the quest order as the thing to follow.
The only cost shown anywhere is the 10 mesos at Mong from Kong. A blank in the table means none is listed, not a guarantee that none exists, so carry a small meso reserve anyway.
Page by page: where to look
Work through the stops in this order. Each step gives the gist of the hint, the map, and the spot on that map.
Talk to Jay in Henesys. Take The Marks We Leave Behind. Its text is a short riddle saying that every adventurer leaves a trace, but only someone who follows the trail will find it. Accept the quest and the chain begins.
The Pig Beach (page 2). The hint describes a seaside spot watched over by snouted creatures. Per NiaMeowDB, you get to this map from 3-Way Road-Split. Stay on the low ground and search among the trees to the right of the tall cliff at the left edge of the map.
Someone Else's House (page 3). The hint talks about spending one night under a stranger's roof. The page is at the door of the mushroom house on that map. Our data does not say which town or field leads there, so use your quest tracker or the world map to find the entrance.
Marr's Forest (page 4). The hint says the woods hold on to what the traveler lets slip. Go to the bottom right corner of the map. As with the previous stop, the route into Marr's Forest is not recorded in our files.
Mong from Kong in Kerning City (page 5). The hint speaks of gathering shadows and of checking every coin, which is a fair nudge toward Kerning City and a payment. Look beside the Kerning City Pharmacy, on its right. Mong from Kong charges 10 mesos for the page.
The Land of Wild Boar II (page 6). The hint points beyond the well-worn path to where wild creatures roam. Per NiaMeowDB, the page is on the second stepping stone counting from the left.
Ant Tunnel Park (final mark). The last hint says the tiniest footsteps can lead the way underground. NiaMeowDB lists Ant Tunnel Park as the destination for The Final Mark, but I hold no position detail for the page there. Expect to search the map.
You may want a marked map for each spot. I cannot supply screenshots here, and the wiki has no coordinates for these pages, so the descriptions above are the most exact positions our data supports. If a page is not where described, a client update could be the cause, and it is worth checking again in your own client rather than assuming the description holds.
The hat at the end
Per NiaMeowDB, the trail ends with the Mark of the Beta, a hat. Its listed numbers are below.
Stat or requirement
Value
Weapon defense (WDEF)
24
STR bonus
+1
DEX bonus
+1
INT bonus
+1
LUK bonus
+1
Upgrade slots
7
Level to wear
25
The design point here is flexibility. Because the hat adds one point to each of the four main stats, no job gets a better or worse version, and every job can put it on at level 25. The 24 WDEF is a modest defensive line. The 7 upgrade slots only matter if you intend to scroll the hat, and whether that is worth the mesos is a separate question. Our scrolling basics guide covers success rates and slots. I would think twice before investing in an item that cannot be resold.
Two details about ownership, both per NiaMeowDB. First, the hat is bound to the character who earns it: it cannot be traded, and storage will not carry it to another character. Second, the event is tracked per account. When one of your characters finishes, your other characters show the quests as already done. Classic World allows up to 3 characters per account, per Nexon's release notes, so decide the wearer before you start. Run the trail on the character you most want wearing the hat, ideally one that is at least level 25 and likely to stay in play.
How reliable these locations are
Clue-driven events are easy to get slightly wrong. What is true in Classic World today: the hints and positions above are what NiaMeowDB records, our wiki files have no entry for this event, and each stop should be checked in your own client.
What our data does not tell us
The event end date. Nexon planned a start at Grand Launch on October 21, 2026, but the end date in our reference text is cut off, so I do not give one.
Entry routes to Someone Else's House and Marr's Forest.
The position of the final page at Ant Tunnel Park.
Page visibility. Nothing recorded says whether pages show to everyone on a map or only to players holding the quest.
Danger on the route. No spawn counts or drop rates are recorded for these maps, so I will not rank the stops by risk.
Wiki confirmation. mapleclassic.wiki has no event data in our files, so every location here rests on NiaMeowDB alone.
Tips for running the trail
Reach level 25 before you speak to Jay. The level gate is the only listed requirement for starting.
Carry at least 10 mesos before you reach Kerning City. If you are short, you will make a second trip.
Read each hint before leaving the map you are on. The hints are short, but they are the only clues you get.
If a map is crowded, change channel. Nexon's FAQ says monsters, drops and quests are identical on every channel and only the players differ. Whether that affects page visibility is not documented, but it does clear the crowd.
If you travel in a party, stay on the same channel, since Nexon says party members must share a channel to play together.
Do not buy, trade or accept hats or pages from other players. The hat is described as untradable, and anyone offering one is not offering a legitimate item.
The trail is light on danger and heavy on map-reading, which suits its purpose: it gets you moving across Victoria Island instead of parked at one training spot. If you reach the end and find something that differs from what I have written, that is useful information, and I will update this guide as the wiki gains data.
