Nexon's Sept. 22 memo: bans carry across both games

Nexon's September 22, 2026 memo states account sanctions apply across Global MapleStory and Classic World, which matters for banned and returning players.

Originally announced 2026-09-22. Written as part of our launch history series.

On 2026-09-22, Nexon issued a memo on account sanctions. It states that sanctions apply across Global MapleStory (GMS) and Global MapleStory Classic World. This piece looks at what that line says, what it does not say, and where it leaves players now.

What the memo states

The source is Nexon's FAQ, which cites the memo. The FAQ question is direct: if you are banned in MapleStory, are you banned in Classic World? The answer is that account sanctions apply across both games.

That is the confirmed part. The FAQ summary does not give more detail. It does not list which sanctions count, how long they last, or how Nexon applies them case by case. Those points are not confirmed here, so we do not describe them.

What it means for banned accounts

Nexon says sanctions apply across both games. A player with a sanctioned GMS account should therefore not treat MapleStory Classic World as a separate record. The memo does not say otherwise.

We do not know how appeals work for a cross-game sanction. Nexon's support pages are the place to check. We will not guess at the process.

What it means for players who assumed a clean slate

Some players expected Classic World to start fresh. The pre-Big Bang setting invites that thought. The memo says the policy side does not reset.

This is a policy point only. Nexon's FAQ also covers other account questions, and the answers sit in separate entries:

  • Character names: the FAQ addresses whether IGNs are shared between the two games. Check the current answer there.
  • NX and benefits: the FAQ addresses what is shared between MapleStory and Classic World, including NX, Maple Points and MVP benefits.
  • Running both games: the FAQ addresses running both applications together. Check the current text.
  • Challenger World transfers: the FAQ addresses these directly.

Sharing of some account features does not change the memo. The memo concerns sanctions. The other entries concern names, currency and benefits.

The dates around the memo

Nexon lists Grand Launch for October 21, 2026. Players with a qualifying Founder's Package get Founder's Access from October 6, 2026. Nexon says progress made during Founder's Access carries directly into Grand Launch, with no wipe between the two.

The memo came two weeks before Founder's Access. On September 29, 2026, Nexon published pre-download instructions for both Nexon Launcher and Steam.

The Founder's Package tiers are Snail, Orange Mushroom and Zakum. All three include Founder's Access from October 6. Nexon's FAQ says the Steam version offers only the Zakum tier. The other tiers are sold through Nexon's own store. We do not restate prices because they can change.

Where this leaves players now

It is now October 2026. Founder's Access begins October 6. Grand Launch follows on October 21. The memo is already in force as Nexon's stated position.

For a player with a sanctioned GMS account, the confirmed point is simple: Nexon says that status applies to Classic World. Buying a Founder's Package does not appear in the FAQ as a way around it. The FAQ does not address that, so we make no claim either way.

For everyone else, the practical step is to read the current Nexon FAQ before buying. Entries on names, NX and running both games can change. The memo line on sanctions is the fixed point.

We will update this piece if Nexon publishes further detail on how cross-game sanctions are applied.
