Nexon says it has permanently banned 1,379 MapleStory Classic World accounts for hacking, botting and abnormal gameplay. The figure comes from an announcement posted on October 17, 2026, around 21:30 UTC, in the ClassicWorld News channel of the official MapleStory Discord server. It was posted by Potaro, a Nexon community manager.
As of October 18, the announcement had not appeared on Nexon's website news page. Everything below is attributed to Nexon's announcement on the official MapleStory Discord.
What Nexon says
- Nexon says it is aware of player concerns about hacking, botting and other abnormal gameplay in Classic World.
- Nexon says its team has been monitoring these activities and acting against accounts that violate the Terms of Service, including permanent bans.
- Nexon says 1,379 accounts have been banned for engaging in these activities.
- Nexon says it is still investigating suspicious activity. Any further accounts found doing the same will receive the same permanent bans.
- Nexon says it will keep working to make Classic World fair for all players.
Founder's Package buyers are not exempt
Nexon states that the rules are enforced during Founder's Access. Players who bought a Founder's Package are held to the same rules. Nexon says no exceptions are made for them.
That is a direct answer to a worry raised earlier this month. On October 13, players reported bots and multi-client farming during Founder's Access. We covered those reports in our earlier story, Players Report Bots in Founder's Access: What to Do. The Nexon announcement is the first public response we have seen to those concerns. Nexon's post does not link itself to those reports, so that connection is ours, not Nexon's.
A ban can reach your main account
Nexon's September 22, 2026 memo says account sanctions apply across Global MapleStory (GMS) and Classic World. A ban in one carries to the other. Nexon's October 17 announcement does not repeat this point. We are citing the September memo here.
In practice, a Classic World ban is not limited to a test account or a side project. Under the memo, it can also affect your GMS account.
What Nexon did not say
The announcement leaves several questions open. We will not guess at the answers.
- Nexon did not say how the 1,379 accounts were identified.
- Nexon did not say over what period the bans were issued.
- Nexon did not say whether the count includes any Grand Launch preparation.
- Nexon did not say whether banned Founder's Package buyers will receive refunds.
The number alone also cannot tell us how many of those accounts were bots and how many were players using other prohibited methods. Nexon grouped them together.
What it means for a player this week
Grand Launch is October 21, 2026 at 11:00 AM PDT, when the game opens to everyone. A larger player base is likely to bring more attention to the same issues, though Nexon has not said so.
Based on Nexon's announcement, these are the practical points:
- Do not use third-party programs to automate play.
- Do not run multi-client farming setups.
- Do not assume a Founder's Package protects your account. Nexon says it does not.
- If you suspect a bot, report it in game. That is the route our earlier story covered.
Nexon says it is investigating suspicious activity and that further accounts will be banned. It has not given a schedule for future ban announcements. We will update this story if Nexon posts the notice to its website or adds detail on refunds, methods or timing.
