The April 2025 Reveal: What Nexon Promised, and Today

On 2025-04, Nexon revealed MapleStory Classic World in its 20th anniversary video; here is how that promise reads with launch weeks away.

On 2025-04, in its 20th anniversary developer video, Nexon revealed MapleStory Classic World. The announcement was dated April 1, 2025 on the mapleclassic.wiki News timeline, which also records that the project was led by original designer Nemi. The brief was short: a pre-Big Bang recreation of the game, built by someone who worked on the original.

The design intent behind the promise

A recreation lives or dies on what it chooses to keep. Naming the original designer as lead was a statement about priorities: the people who set the game's pacing and structure would be the ones deciding what a faithful version means. That is the intent. What it produces is a separate question, and I will not assume the two match. Memory is a poor measuring tool. In the 2007-era client I remember towns feeling large and levels feeling slow, but I cannot tell you from memory whether Classic World uses identical numbers. Where numbers matter, mapleclassic.wiki is the reference, and where dates and packages matter, Nexon is.

How the road ran from the reveal

Here is the timeline as the mapleclassic.wiki News timeline and Nexon sources record it:

  • April 1, 2026: Closed Online Test 1 went live.
  • June 1, 2026: A special trailer aired at IGN Live 2026.
  • August 1, 2026: Closed Online Test 2 went live.
  • August 11, 2026: Nexon published a patch adjusting mobility skills, per the wiki patch page.
  • August 21, 2026: Grand Launch was set for October 21, 2026 in Nexon's Ossyria Exploration Report.
  • September 2, 2026: Three Founder's Package tiers went on sale: Snail, Orange Mushroom and Zakum.
  • September 29, 2026: Nexon published the Classic World FAQ and Founder's Access pre-download instructions for Nexon Launcher and Steam.

Two closed tests, a trailer and a balance patch sit between a one-sentence promise and a dated launch. That is a visible development path, which a bare reveal video could not show on its own.

What the promise looks like as a scope

The word that mattered in 2025 was pre-Big Bang, because it implied a boundary. A boundary means choosing what to leave out. Today the launch scope, as listed by the wiki and Nexon, is specific:

  • Two continents: Maple Island (levels 1 to 10) and Victoria Island (level 10 and up).
  • Victoria Island towns: Henesys, Ellinia, Perion, Kerning City, Lith Harbor and Sleepywood.
  • Four job branches (Warrior, Magician, Bowman, Thief) plus Beginner, with first and second job advancement.
  • 66 monsters including six bosses, and 221 quests.
  • Crafting with six professions, party quests, a Citizenship system, guilds and the Free Market.
  • It runs inside the existing Global MapleStory (GMS) client, on Nexon Launcher or Steam, with a macOS beta and gamepad support.

Notice what is absent: 3rd job and anything beyond the second advancement are held back, and so are the regions past Victoria Island. They are not part of the launch, and nothing here should be read as available. The promise of a recreation turned out to mean a bounded one, and the boundary is stated plainly.

One memory, and what it is worth

I remember reading the first anniversary-era announcements of old servers and assuming the biggest question would be rates. I was wrong; the bigger question was always scope, which content exists on day one. That is why the list above matters more than any single number from my memory.

What it means now

The reveal promised a permanent pre-Big Bang recreation. Weeks from launch, Founder's Access begins October 6, 2026 for players with a qualifying Founder's Package, and progress carries into Grand Launch on October 21, 2026, when Classic World opens to everyone. The true state today is a defined scope, a dated schedule and a client you can pre-download. Whether it feels like the game you remember is something only play will answer, and the wiki will track the numbers as they settle.
